Link files to your uploaded file

You can link multiple files to your already uploaded file, for example, if you have uploaded a dataset for an experiment and you want to add the report, journal article and images related to that dataset you can do so by:

Click on “Edit” (2) or “Edit details” (3) next to the file (1) that you want to link other files to.

By clicking on “Edit” the related window will open. Note that there is a slight difference in metadata between journal article and dataset types. If the type selected is dataset (1), two extra fields are added to edit

  • Sub-Type* (2) to specify the type of dataset uploaded.
  • Dataverse (3).

Or you can click on “Edit details”. The related window will open. Note that there is a slight difference in metadata between journal article and dataset types. Four extra fields are added to edit details section.

  • Number of dataset users (1): Specify the number of dataset users.
  • Dataverse (2): Select the dataverse topic from drop-down list.
  • Data collector (3): Click on “Add data collector” a related field will open. Click on “choose from users” (5) to select the desired user. Click on “Choose from partner” (6) to select the desired partner. Click on “Delete” (7) to delete the field.
  • Dataverse Subjects (4): Specify the subject of the datavese selected from the drop-down list.

Click on “Manage file” from edit or edit details.

The new window will open with the previously uploaded file (1).

  • Click on “add new file” (2): To link a new file from your device, an image to be added to your dataverse for example.
  • Click on “Select from my reports” (3): To link a file you uploaded into MEL. you can add for example, an image you have uploaded before and you want to share it with this file instead of adding duplicated images. Likewise, you can link a report or a journal article previously uploaded.

Both not-approved and approved to MELSpace files can be linked. However, note that when you link an approved file (which has an eye icon next to it) (1), the system generates automatically a reference in the metadata under Add Reference (from MEL) file in Edit details section.

You can add an external link to your uploaded file by:

  • Type the URL or DOI address in the URL box (1).
  • Click on “Add link” (2).
  • The link to the file (3) will be visible under the files and links.
  • Click on “Continue” (4) to return back to “Edit details” section.

The link will be added automatically to the URL field. Click on “Save changes” to save the changes.

To download the list of files uploaded previously. Click on the download button (1) next to the file you want to download in the Report files section.

If the file contains multiple files, the system will open another window with a list of files uploaded. The symbol next to the first 3 files (1) indicates that the files can be downloaded, while the symbol next to the fourth file (2) indicates that it is a URL link of the file.
